A meeting of the Great Smoky Mountain Cluster Committee was held at the home of Wally and Carol Sommerfelt.

 

Members present were: Barbara Byrum, David Miller, Catherine Bell, Wally Sommerfelt, Carol Sommerfelt, Donna Burchi, Paula Smiddy, Janie McDonald and Debby Sharp.

 

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.

 

DISCUSSION:

• It was announced that TVKC has a new committee for promoting publicity in the community. 
  

• It was suggested that “B” matches be held during the week and Wednesday evenings at 6:30 was suggested. Suggested dates were August 18, September 15, and October 13, 2010. Donna Burchi and Bernadine Luketich will chair. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. These events will be held at Chilhowee Park. Wally will get judges for these matches.
  

• Malls will be contacted to offer demonstrations and meet the breeds. This can be done throughout the year.
  

• Donna, Wally and Quinto Burchi will go to see trophies and make the final arrangements for these.
  

• It was suggested that Linda and Michael Pitts be asked to give a handling seminar. Wally will follow-up on this.
  

• A class for stewards for obedience and rally will be held on July 12, 2010, at the ORKC training site. Tracy Wagner will conduct this clinic. It will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a pot luck supper to follow.

FUTURE SHOWS:  Suggestions for future shows were discussed.

• We would like to have heart and eye clinics as well as micro-chipping next year.
  

• We would also like to have a herding demonstration.
  

• Lure coursing and Fly Ball will be considered.
  

• It was noted that a Judges’ Committee needs to be appointed and a meeting set probably in August. Suggestions can be submitted to Wally.
  

VENDORS: Vendors who sign a contract before the premium list goes to print will be listed in that mailer. Vendors were suggested.

 

FALL SHOW: Discussion was held concerning details for our upcoming shows. Tuesday set-up will start at 4:00 p.m. at which time the floors will be taped and vendors’ areas marked off. Some set-up can be done on Wednesday morning, but the Collie Specialty starts at 11:00, and we must maintain quiet while that is going on.

 

CHRISTMAS PARTY:  The desire to have a joint Christmas Party was expressed. David said that the ORKC was planning a party for the first Saturday in December.

 

ADJOURNMENT: The business of the committee having been completed, the meeting was adjourned at 9:02 p.m. The next meeting will be held on July 12, following the Steward’s Classes.
