GENERAL MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 5, 2002
President Tom Schmidt called the meeting to order at 7:08 PM. The meeting was then recessed so that we could have a program.
Doris Werdermann introduced Joe Henderson, a K-9 officer with the Knox County Sheriff's Department. He brought Max, a German Shepherd Dog, who is a trained cadaver dog. The program dealt with their experiences in New York City after the September 11 terrorist attack.
The meeting resumed at 8:10 PM.
Visitors: Joyce and Richard Armstrong, who have moved here from San Antonio, Texas. They own English setters and Bedlington terriers. Also visiting, Judith Fondren. Attending their 3rd meeting: Angie Bass and Robin Brown, who own Whippets, and Denise Jones, who owns Bulldogs.
The minutes from the August meeting were approved as published.
Board: The Board needs a volunteer to be Program Coordinator after December. Doris Werdermann will be stepping down then. In October Pat Hartmann will offer a program on Ring Stewarding. In December, DruAnne Martin will present a program on the Alaskan Malamute. Doris mentioned that, if the club wanted, she could arrange for a program with the dogs from the Sheriff's Dept. giving a demonstration.
The AKC offer to sell us banners with their and our logos was circulated to the membership.
President: Tom Schmidt reported that he had signed up the club for the On-line Events Management System. This program allows show chairs to have all show information put into the AKC computer file directly.
Corresponding Secretary: Jeanne Ringe reported that radio station 100.3 The River thanked TVKC for our club's donation to buy vests for the Sheriff's K-9 unit.
Treasurer: Jean Dinkins circulated her report. Phyllis Fortuned move, seconded by Jan Schmidt, that the Treasurer's report be filed. Motion passed.
AKC Delegate: Karen Clausing announced that her name is to appear in the upcoming Gazettes, September and October issues. She will be able to attend the December meeting.
Agility: Jeanne Ringe reported that everything is ready for the weekend trials. She circulated a sign-up sheet for additional helpers.
Cluster Coordinator: Nancye Davis reported that we are expecting around 2,500 dogs. Everything is set. The clubs using the Entertainer Catering will have to pay $150.00 per day to the Expo Center. The Saturday and Sunday clubs will use the Expo Center's caterer. After a question from the floor, Nancye announced that there will be good food available to the exhibitors. Also, we have changed cleaning crews; we will use the Expo Center's cleanup crew.
Parking Coordinator: Steve Merritt reported that the parking area in front of the Expo Center will be off limits to dogs. It is to be for spectators only. Exhibitors may park on the side of the building.
Trophies: Joy Davis showed one of the prints to be awarded for Best in Show. She also showed a sample blanket which is one of the trophies to be awarded.
Special Events: Jan Schmidt reported that all special events appear in the Premium List.
Match Chair: Barbara Price requested volunteers to help with the Match on Wednesday night. She needs entry takers, ring stewards, etc.
Training Coordinator: Connie Setzer, reporting for Debbie Casey, explained that if classes are to be held at the Farmer's Market, logistically Debbie could not arrive on time, so she would have to resign.
After much discussion on possible sites, Jan Schmidt moved, seconded by Phyllis Fortune, that we schedule six classes at Agri Feed, on Middlebrook Pike, at a cost of $50.00 per week. Motion failed.
The President will contact Debbie Casey.
Denise Jones, Angela Bass, and Robin Brown were elected to membership.
The Club voted not to buy a banner from AKC.
Axel Ringe reported that Art Busse has passed away.
Nancy Davis will contact the other cluster clubs to see if they will share printing expenses for flyers announcing the shows, activities, etc., which will be going on during the cluster. These flyers will be distributed around town.
It was mentioned that we write a press release announcing the club's contribution to the K-9 Sheriff's fund and mention the cluster in this release.
Garry Clausing moved, seconded by Nancye Davis, that the club spend $100.00 on the flyers. Motion passed.
There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:13 PM.
