TENNESSEE VALLEY KENNEL CLUB GENERAL MEETING MINUTES MAY 1, 2003
President Tom Schmidt called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
Visitors: Deborah Garrison, Nancye Davis¹s niece, and Jenni Fleming.
Corresponding Secretary: Jeanne Ringe reported about a letter from the Chattanooga KC announcing that they will be having back-to-back shows in September 2004.
There were thank you letters from Nancye Davis and Trula Dinkins, and also from Dr. Karl Barth.
Treasurer: Jean Dinkins circulated the reports from April and May. Nancye Davis moved, seconded by Debbie Casey that they be filed. Motion passed.
AKC Delegate: Karen Clausing reported that AKC is increasing the 0.50 recording fee to $1.50. Also, at the next Delegates Meeting, AKC wants to change its By-Laws so that the last quarterly meeting can coincide with the Invitational Show. Roberto Jiménez moved, seconded by Dr. Karl Barth, that we send Karen to the Portland meeting. Motion passed. The club voted on whether AKC should change their By-Laws. There being a tied vote (11 for-11against), President Tom Schmidt broke the tie by voting no.
Trophies: Paula Smiddy reported on trophies for the Saturday show. They are to be ice coolers, director¹s chairs with embroidery, etc. Jan Schmidt moved, seconded by Roberto Jiménez, that these be the trophies offered. Motion passed.
At this time the Club elections were held. A recess for tallying votes was called for by the President. The meeting resumed, and the results of the election were as follows: President: Tom Schmidt Vice-President: Barbara Price Treasurer: Jean Dinkins Corresponding Secretary: Charles Price Recording Secretary: Roberto Jiménez Board: Garry Clausing, Steve Merritt, Jeanne Ringe, Paula Smiddy, and Barbara Williams.
New Members: Jean Dinkins moved, seconded by Nancye Davis, that we dispense with the secret ballot rules. Motion passed. Catherine Ryan was duly elected a new member.
First Reading: Jenni Fleming had her first reading.
New Business: Barbara Williams moved, seconded by Debbie Casey, that we not keep a P.O. Box because it is not convenient. Motion passed. Jean Dinkins will try to get a refund for the club.
A committee has been formed in order to approach the Oak Ridge KC to see whether they would want to join TVKC in the fall.
Dr. Karl Barth moved, seconded by Bob Werdermann, that TVKC have an information table at the Adoption and Rescue Fair on May 31, and that we pay th $25.00 fee. Motion passed.
On our next meeting, June 5, the club will present its annual awards. The club will provide the meat. Linda and Grant Howard are in charge of purchasing meat, bread, drinks and condiments.
It was announced that Paula Smiddy was the Grand Prize Winner at Bark in the Park. She raised $2,195.00. Congratulations!
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.
