TENNESSEE VALLEY KENNEL CLUB, INC.
GENERAL MEETING  MINUTES
MARCH 3, 2005

Regular meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM  by Vice President  Barbara Price in the absence of the President,  Tom Schmidt.  Recording Secretary Roberto Jimenez was not present so no  minutes were available from February meeting.   Roll call sheet was passed around and visitor Barry Oelrich, from KY,  was introduced.  He has Akitas.

The Board reports a change from last years fall show stewards from Dixie Stewards to Southeast Stewards.  Ten $10 meal vouchers will be provided to the head steward, to be given to those working. The Building Committee was instructed to meet with the West Knox vets who are anticipating providing us with a place to train and meet.  This committee will report its findings at the next meeting.

Corresponding Secretary Carolyn Price reported receiving a thank you card from Debby Casey.  A thank you letter  was received from the Canine Health Foundation for our annual donation, this time for $5,000.  A receipt for $5,000  from the UT Vet school was received, as well as approval  from AKC for the obedience trial in July .

Treasurer Jean Dinkins gave treasurers report.  She also reported on her discussion with our tax lawyer regarding questions on nonprofit status and a proposed building fund that was asked at the last meeting.  There would be no problem with having moneys up to $250,000.  He also discouraged purchasing a  "show site".

AKC delegate Karen Clausing led the discussion on which candidates for the AKC Board of Directors our TVKC should support.  After a vote by the members present, it was decided her vote would be:  Merriam, Dinardo, Garvin, Scully, Ashby, Gladstone and Keane.  A discussion on the  pros and cons of the upcoming "roll call vote" ensued.  Catherine Bell motioned to vote against this amendment;  second by Jean Dinkins. Motion passed.   A By-Law change for a Nominating Committee board/member delegate was mentioned. Catherine Bell motioned, seconded by Sandy Jessop, to vote against change. Motion passed.

Committee reports:
Obedience Committee Chairperson Larry Stogner reported on the July trial.   Farragut Middle School is the site, and will cost $50 per day, plus custodian fee.  Judges will be John and Carol Mett.  Ace Russell moved for a $75 HIT award.  Phyllis Fortune seconds. Motion carries.  Larry Stogner answered questions on "Rally"  and Ace Russell moved that Rally be considered for July 2006.  Motion passed.
Agility Trial, to be held on March 25-27 was reported on by Ace Russell.  Helpers are still needed.   He also stated that an agility class has begun at the Brim Arena on the UT campus on Wednesday evenings.   Sadly,  Ace also reported on the death of agility judge Diane Martin, in a recent auto accident.  Her dogs were with her.  All have been accounted for except a Rottweiler, who escaped into the nearby woods. Efforts to capture and contain the rotty have failed thus far.   Ace moved that a donation be made to the Rottweiler Rescue, in Diane's memory. Catherine Bell seconded.  Passed.
Connie Setzer, show chairperson for the fall all breed dog show, reports receiving a contract from Southeast Stewards . The show will be held at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.   A motion was made by Sandy Jessop to hire Onofrio as superintendent for the 2005 show. Motion passed.  Connie also reports on the plan to have a flyball demonstration and a handling seminar, as well as needing someone to manage the fun match for the fall show.
Pat Hartman reports that the Judges Committee will hold another meeting to obtain another judge for the 2005 fall show. She will report at the April meeting.
Nominating Committee chairperson, Pat Hartman, reports their recommended nominees for the upcoming election are as follows:  President, Phyllis Fortune;  Vice President, Barbara Price;  Treasurer, Jean Dinkins; Recording Secretary, Sandy Jessop;  Corresponding Secretary, Carolyn Price;  Board of Directors, Catherine Bell, Pat Hartman, JoBeth Kelley, Jeanne Ringe, and Paula Smiddy.

Unfinished Business:
A motion was made by Jean Dinkins, seconded by Nan Anderson, to untable the motion regarding a donation to the Canine Health Foundation's Endowment Fund.   A one time donation of $10,000 was made by Jean Dinkins, second by Pat Hartman.  Motion passed.
Catherine Bell reported that the TVKC Christmas Party has been scheduled for December 3, 2005, at  Naples Restaurant.

New Business:
Karen Clausing passed out a copy of the proposed changes for the state of Tennessee,  in regard to animal owners and their rights to said animals. She suggested that since these changes are not in our best interest as dog fanciers, we should contact our elected representatives and defeat these proposed bills.

Sandy Jessop motioned for adjournment; second by Sally Gervin.  Motion carried.

Submitted by Carolyn Price, Corresponding Secretary
For Roberto Jimenez, Recording Secretary
