President Phyllis Fortune called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM
The minutes of the June meeting were approved as published.
Board Report: Jeanne Weber Ringe reported that the Boxer Club would like to have an all-breed Obedience Trial, on Friday, June 30. The Board recommended that we allow it. Catherine Bell moved, seconded by DruAnne Martin, that we approve the Board's recommendation. Passed.
The Board also recommended that we keep the same site and weekend for next year, on November 4 & 5, 2006. Sandy Jessop moved, seconded by Carol Stone, that we approve the Board's recommendation. Passed.
Corr. Sec'y: Carolyn Price read the correspondence: Community Knoxville would like to know if TVKC would participate in a T.V. Auction. The Knox County Public Library asked that we put our name in their database. Jean Dinkins moved, seconded by Catherine Bell, that we do so. Passed. The Canine Health Foundation sent a pamphlet and a letter inviting a member to join the National Parent Club Health Foundation conference in St. Louis. The deadline for applying is August 15. Tom Schmidt moved, seconded by Nan Anderson, that a notice be put in the Newsletter for members to apply to be voted on by the membership at the August meeting. Passed. After some lengthy discussion, Charles Price called the question, seconded by Catherine Bell. Passed Jeanne Weber Ringe moved, seconded by Connie Setzer, that the applicant's names be put in a hat rather than having to vote on them. Passed. Connie Setzer moved, seconded by Catherine Bell, that the club pay for a round-trip ticket to St. Louis. Passed.
The Smoky Mtn. Owner Handlers Assn. will hold a four-week training session beginning on July 17. The session will be held at Superpetz, Westend Ave., Farragut, from 7:00-7:45. Cost $28.00 members; $32.00 non-members.
Treas.: Jean Dinkins circulated her report. Catherine Bell moved, seconded by Nan Anderson that the report be filed. Passed.
AKC Del.: Karen Clausing reported about AKC's Strategic Planning. There is information about AKC wanting to expand its base. PAWS Legislation (Pet Animal Welfare Statute) AKC wants to bring under legislation people who are breeding dogs in mass quantities, that is, to bring these people under the law. Karen will send information to the Corresponding Secretary about Websites in which to find more information about this.
Audit Committee: Sandy Jessop, Chair, Sally Gervin and Barbara Williams gave their report, which was very well received.
Ace Russell gave the TVKC Agility report. In it there was a chart considering Trials dating from 2002. The chart shows the upswing of entries, etc.
Jeanne Weber Ringe, Obedience report, the Trial on Saturday had 100 dogs, while on Sunday there were fewer dogs. The facility is good, and it will probably be used again next year.
Jean Dinkins commented that officers and members of the club should make an appearance at AKC sponsored events. Phyllis Fortune echoed the sentiment.
Connie Setzer reported that the Judges Committee had their first meeting.
First Reading: William Stone, who has Brussels Griffons and English Cocker Spaniels. Texas "Eddie" Dulaney, who has Airedales and West Highland White Terriers.
Connie Setzer thanked Jan Schmidt and Karen Clausing for their help on the Judges Committee. Connie then read the Club's mission statement and indicated that we may not be following our mission for purebred dogs.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00PM.
