How did you become interested in our sport? I originally sought out agility classes to enrich the lives of my menagerie of rescue dogs. Before long, my entire outlook on dog ownership was turned upside down and inside out! I had no idea the time, patience, and dedication required to properly socialize and train a dog for any level of sport or competition. I was beyond amazed to see all shapes, sizes, and breeds performing in such a wide variety of activities and absolutely loving every second of it! Every day I am humbled by the strength of the human/animal bond.
Tell us about your most memorable moment in our sport? To date, my proudest moment occurred earlier this year during one of my first ACT competitions. I was a brand new agility handler and my pit bull mix, Ainsleigh, was very new to agility. Despite my ugly handling and more than a touch of nerves, we managed to have a perfect night and earn 8 Q's and 4 New Titles. The connection I felt with my dog was indescribable. It was the first time we truly came together as a team to conquer our fears and OWN those courses. I have been absolutely obsessed with AKC Agility ever since.
What is it that attracted you to the TVKC? My first TVKC Agility trial made a lasting impression. Everyone was so kind to me and my novice dog. I was able to step right in and volunteer which made me even more knowledgeable in this sport. I knew that I wanted to continue to involve myself with like minded people, as I have so very much to learn!
What do you like most about being a member of TVKC? I love the support offered by TVKC. I have made so many new friends and I have learned so much about every dog sport. I am so motivated to continue my education and provide the best possible life for my dogs through their involvement of AKC events!
Do you think TVKC meets your needs as a member? If not what areas would you like to see improvements in? Yes! Monthly meetings are doable even with my crazy schedule. I enjoy connecting with fellow members and I feel comfortable to ask any question that may come to mind.
How do your dogs impact your life? My dogs saved my life. They haven given me purpose and motivation to excel. After only a year of involvement, I am already a new person inside and out. Ainsleigh, my first ever agility dog, has taught me more than 1,000 books ever could. I owe my everything to her. I resolve to provide her the most enriched life possible. Together I know we will achieve the seemingly impossible.
