What Breed or Breeds do you have, past or present? Cardigan Welsh Corgis, formerly Rottweilers and Dobermans
Are you an Active breeder? Yes
How long have you been active in the sport? Over 30 years.
What is your favorite competition/sport? Conformation
What other areas of competition interest you? Obedience, Agility, Rally, Fast CAT
How long have you been a member of the TKVC? Long time
Do you compete in Owner Handler? Yes
How did you become interested in our sport? I started out competing in obedience. Then one of my obedience instructors told me about a "fun match." It was on Halloween and there were costumes in addition to regular conformation judging. My instructor's sister saw my young Rottweiler and offered to show her for me. That dog finished her championship and I was hooked!
Tell us about your most memorable moment in our sport? There have been several. One of my most memorable was finishing my first championship by going Best of Breed from the classes over five champions and topping it off with making the cut in group. Since then I have taken many Best of Breeds and several group placements. It's very satisfying and important to me to do all this myself, so far without using a professional handler.
What is it that attracted you to the TVKC? I moved to Knoxville and wanted to be a part of the local club to help with putting on events and giving back to a sport that I love.
What do you like most about being a member of TVKC? I really enjoy that the club has so many good speakers to come to the meetings. This is very unusual for most dog clubs and really speaks to the club's dedication to its members and the dog community at large. The members are diverse and the activities enjoyable.
Do you think TVKC meets your needs as a member? If not what areas would you like to see improvements in? I love the TVKC and think it superior to many clubs I have belonged to over the years. There is always room for improvement. Would love if we had a permanent building of our own to hold classes and meetings. We are trying to work toward that goal.
How do your dogs impact your life? The dogs are a major part of my life and have been for decades. I cannot imagine not having them. They are always loving and giving of themselves. There is nothing better than the complete acceptance and love which dogs give to us.
