What Breed or Breeds do you have past or present? English setters
Are you an Active breeder? I only breed occasionally, about every 3 years or so
What areas of competition interest you? Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Other? Conformation is the only one that I compete in, however, all my dogs get training in obedience and agility. I have also put hunting titles on them, and they have done therapy at nursing homes.
How long have you been active in the sport? Too long …. almost 40 years! Where did the time go? Better question, what happened to my body????
How did you become interested in our sport? Always loved dogs, and like most kids, wanted to become a vet. I went to a dog show with my new husband and fell in love with the english setter. I spoke to a breeder and asked lots of questions, Years later I obtained my first setter. She was a mess, but I loved her. I got reaquainted with the breeder I met at the show, and obtained a pup from her, with the agreement that she would be shown. I entered my first dog show with that pup and won best puppy and my first points at my very first show and was hooked!
Tell us about your most memorable moment in our sport? A few years back I won the “top 20” event at our national show with my bitch that I bred and always showed owner handled. Then I took her to Westminster and won an award of merit with her too.
What is it that attracted you to the TVKC? How long have you been a member? When we bought a home here in 2010, I immediately looked for people with the same interest. I knew I needed to be around other “dog people." I joined TVKC in 2010 even before I even moved here permanently. We went back and forth to Chicago for a while and moved permanently here in 2012 .
What do you like most about being a member of TVKC? I like being with other “dog people” We are a unique breed in ourselves.
Do you think TVKC meets your needs as a member? If not what areas would you like to see improvements in? I have belong to numerous english setter breed clubs over the years and I can honestly say being a member of an all breed kennel club is so much better. We, as a club, support each other, wether we’re at a dog show showing our dog and the other members stay to cheer you on, or personally support you in time of need as when I lost my husband. I can’t explain how those little things the club members said or did, helped me thru a very difficult time. There are no people better than dog people!
How do your dogs impact your life? I wouldn’t have survived my husbands passing without my girls to comfort me every day ' They are my constant.
