What Breed or Breeds do you have past or present? I have a cream colored miniature poodle.
Are you an Active breeder? No
What areas of competition interest you? Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Other? Agility
How long have you been active in the sport? Have been active since 2016.
How did you become interested in our sport? In Puppy Kindergarten, when the trainer (a TVKC member Jan Flaherty) recognized the potential of Krissi, my miniature poodle. And even more so as I progressed to more advanced agility training when the trainer (Another TVKC member Ace Russell) mentioned that I had a very special dog with great potential.
Tell us about your most memorable moment in our sport?
A very memorable moment was achieving our MACH = Master Agility Championship title in September, 2019 at an agility trial in Alpharetta, GA. Another memorable moment was going to our first AKC Nationals in Tulsa OK in the spring of 2019. We have since qualified for the 2020 AKC National Agility Championships in Perry, GA (cancelled due to COVID019) and the 2021 National Agility Championships to be held in Tulsa, OK.
What is it that attracted you to the TVKC? How long have you been a member? I was able to go training classes offered by the TVKC at a 50% discount. The savings really helped. I have been a member since 2015 / 2016.
What do you like most about being a member of TVKC? Initially it was a good way to meet other members interested in agility. One of the things I really like is the wooden plaque given out annually with the titles won.
Do you think TVKC meets your needs as a member? If not what areas would you like to see improvements in? The focus of the club seems to be primarily on conformation and breeding. I am not involved in either of these. For instance, members are requested to donate monies (I have done this) for nice conformation awards, including artisan pottery. However, the basic ribbons given out for TVKC agility are some of the smallest in the southeast. Agility participants outside of our club have commented on the small ribbons. A number of my agility friends belong to other clubs where the focus is more on agility.
How do your dogs impact your life? The companionship with my miniature poodle Krissi has been one of the most rewarding in my life. She and the sport of agility keep me motivated, very health conscious, and active.
