What Breed or Breeds do you have, past or present? Past - mixed breeds via old school takin' 'em in off the street; Current - two Cotons de Tulear
Are you an Active breeder? No
How long have you been active in the sport? 2.5 years
What is your favorite competition/sport? Agility
What other areas of competition interest you? Conformation, Rally, Trick Dog
How long have you been a member of the TKVC? 1 year
Do you compete in Owner Handler? Yes
How did you become interested in our sport? Our breeder wanted me to show the first puppy I obtained from her in conformation. I discovered agility via YouTube and rally and trick dog from talking with other members. I enjoy volunteering at agility trials and taking classes/lessons with Susie Stout. Now I have a second Coton re-homed from the same breeder and may show her in conformation if I can get her to be confident enough.
Tell us about your most memorable moment in our sport? Just getting started really, so memories are in the making.
What is it that attracted you to the TVKC? As a first time owner of a pure breed from a reputable breeder, I wanted to connect with others who value the preservation and joy of pure bred dogs. I also need lots of help understanding and getting started in dog sports.
What do you like most about being a member of TVKC? I like being around people who enjoy talking about dogs and dog sports. I like learning from people with loads of experience.
Do you think TVKC meets your needs as a member? If not what areas would you like to see improvements in? TVKC does a great job it seems with being organized, having regular and interesting meetings, and putting on shows. I do sometimes feel intimidated at meetings. A lot of people seems to have been around a long time and know each other, which is great. Maybe someday I'll feel more a part rather than such a newbie.
How do your dogs impact your life? My two Cotons make me laugh and challenge me as I continue to learn about their care (lots and lots of grooming!) and their training. I love them dearly. They also aid my mental health with Dolly currently being my Service Dog in Training. Radar and his breeder helped me discover dog sports, a world I knew little to nothing about a few years ago.
Is there anything that you would like to share? I am looking forward to volunteering and maybe participating and the Smoky Mountain Cluster this year! I missed it last year due to vacation plans.
