What Breed or Breeds do you have past or present? Past: family had Boxers growing up and I had toy poodles. For a while I had 1 Schipperke. Smooth Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs and Havanese.
Are you an Active breeder? Not any more.
What areas of competition interest you? Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Other? Conformation, I've dabbled in rally and cgc and years ago got 1 obedience title on 1 dog.
How long have you been active in the sport? Since 1974.
How did you become interested in our sport? My maternal grandfather showed Boxers prior to WWII. but that was before me. My Mom was given a couple of his and showed them for several years. Even when she showed no more we still went to a few shows as spectators each year. I wanted to show but parents felt Boxers were too much for me and got me my first poodle. Long story short, she died at the vet pregnant. I then just wanted a pet and got the 2nd. I still had the desire in my mind and after we were married chose Shelties.
Tell us about your most memorable moment in our sport? Lots of really good memories but will tell one that was both funny and not so much too. I was at the show held in that horse pavilion at Stone Mountain. The first dog I showed that day was Betty Abbott's 1st smooth (she'd had roughs for a long time.) A Collie handler was in front of us and was doing her down and back. She was wearing a wrap around skirt, typical of the time, and when they stopped the dog grabbed the bow and untied her skirt. As she was picking it up she said something like sure glad I remembered to wear a slip. There is even more to this story but this is enough.
What is it that attracted you to the TVKC? How long have you been a member? TVKC was the only club that was a member club of AKC. I live much closer to Oak Ridge (I live in Anderson County) and it wasn't and was primarily focused on obedience then and TVKE conformation. I joined early in 1975.
What do you like most about being a member of TVKC? I like the people the most,
What do you like most about being a member of TVKC? Yes, it meets my needs but wish classes for conformation were sometimes offered in the day time, or even a weekend day once in a while. Before having cataract surgery, I didn't see well in the dark and almost not at all in the rain at night. The surgery was supposed to help, haven't tried to drive at night very much so don't know. I realize this is only my problem and doesn't affect the majority and am not pushing for this change; just answering the question.
How do your dogs impact your life? My dogs make me smile every day. They are a big part of our family. Much of the time we are doing something for, about and/or with them. I cannot imagine a life without dogs. Dogs are a big priority in our lives.
